In the slow thread It finally hit me to STOP paying Comcast $60 + tax and fees a year to rent there modem. I've been thinking about it for 3 years every time I open the bill. Not really having the money to spend, it's one of THOSE pay me now or pay me laters.

Well I got it running with there help in about 10 minutes. To whit the OMG. I took 5 before and after on two sites clearing the history and cookies like you're supposed to. It took a while to figure how to post from the site but here are the #s. We were paying for the 16MBPS and never got it. Now I got initial bursts of over 70 MBPS on the tests after I added the new modem. I'm shocked and giddy at one of the best buy's I've ever made for the pc with the MOTOROLA SB6120 modem.

I have been thinking about doing this but my modem handles my Internet and Phone. I can not find a replacement that I can buy to do both. So I would still be stuck renting the modem for phone.

Vonage never worked for me. Maybe they got better but I have the phone and modem f you want it.

Problem is if I get rid of the phone service form Comcast I end up paying more monthly!

ahh yeah, the tripple play...

I have optimum. The modem is free. It's also a high quality modem. Any time I want it upgraded I just bring it into their shop and they give me a new one, no questions asked.
