New and improved Anejo
#31
5 boxes from 1 shop is amazing. But what peaple don't realize is the small town.  I talked to shops that still had some from LAST YEAR.  Some shops got 30 boxes some got 2. I am about the hunt also. I'll bet I called 200 shops to get what I found. One shop wanted me to buy them all , but I declined and left him a box. My answer to him was respect. I told him some of his customers waited all year for the Anejo to hit the shelf and respect to him and his customers for them to be there. I also gave him my # to call me down the road if he wanted to sell the rest later.  Don't blame the buyer or the seller, he/she knows there business and customer base.
.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

i bought those five boxes from a hole in the wall b&m that hardly anyone frequents to buy cigars from.  mainly elderly people playing the lottery is what supports the b&m.  the owner knows me personally and knows what i buy and how much i spend with him.  i got the call that they came in and went down and picked them up.  he loved the fact that i spent an extra grand with him that month.  they would have set on the shelves there for months on end.  instead i helped make his day.   it's not like i bought them to put them on ebay.  i shared two boxes with other BOTL's and the others are ones i am going to smoke and some to age as usual.  this years anejo release is much larger than before because of the wrapper problems with opus.  it won't be like this again for a while so i figure why not stock up while i have the opportunity.  remember the reason why anejos were made in the first place and you will understand why there are soo many this year.

Not throwing blame.....these shops make the decision to sell them.  As I said, the onus lies with them.  Just hate to see all these guys hunting, getting gouged while and others are buying several boxes and aging them.  Don't have to defend yourself guys and please don't take offense.  Happens every year and Fuente loves it. Glad to at least hear they produced a lot more this year and very glad to see all of us StogieChatters helping each other out this Holiday Season.

i try my best to get stuff at a good price so that i can turn around and help other BOTL's out.  i hate to see people get gouged also.  i saw a box of sharks on ebay recently for almost 600$.  that is just crazy.  honestly i'm perfectly happy smoking tats and pepin products (with a litto here and there) but i do enjoy aging and collecting fuente products.  mind you i do live in tampa so their heritage is all over the place here.  so far all i've kept this year was 3 boxes of sharks, a box of 46's and a box of 50's.   i already had a box of fifties from 04 and also a box of 55's from 04 and a box of 46's from 04.  i don't generally buy this much but since i knew there was a lot out there i took the opportunity to get what i could.  i don't care much for the 48's and 49's so i sold those to other brothers who were having a hard time getting anything.  they paid what i paid and i threw in some bonus's as usual Big Grin

My anger lies with the way that the shop owner (or manager) handles the Anejos.
It seems like it happens one of four ways:

----------------------

1. All Anejos are hidden away. You neeed to personally know the owner, and be in his good graces to even know they have them.

2. Same as above, only they charge about double msrp.

3. All Anejos are put on the shelf for all to see. At about double msrp, limit 5 (or less).

4. All Anejos are sold before they see a shelf to 1 or 2 people.

-----------------

Why not just treat them like any old cigar and toss them out on the shelf without all the hubub? Charge what Fuente says you should , put a limit on them so everyone gets a shot (enforce the limit), and be done with them.

Wal-Mart didn't charge double for the Tickle-Me-Elmo that people lined up and acted like idiots to get. Why should my local B&M act all hush-hush, give me 4 at WAY more than they should charge me for them, and then tell me I'm lucky for the privlege?

I don't see it being Fuente's fault...I put the blame directly on the shop owner. Gouging your loyal customers, and not giving your now-and-then customers even a chance just simply sucks.

The only Fuente products I really dig are the (regular) Hemingways and the Anejos. I haven't smoked an Opus in about 2 years, although there are still some buried away in the Antietam. I'm not a "Fuente ho"...I'm just pissed off. Tongue

I don't know guys. A hole in the wall B&M?? How could they get to the point where they get THAT many boxes when tinderbox or my local guy who has been around since the early 70's only gets a couple if any? Fuente like all places are about the bottom line and if you aren't selling "x" amount of the regular stuff AND have a great relationship with the rep...it ain't going to happen. Especially, if your not selling the special release stuff. Why would I give a liquer store that can't sell one, seven or eight boxes? Then turn around and only give tinder box two to three and they have ten times the volume of the liquer store?!

barbourjay, didn't you state on another board that you bought five boxes from members there and later sold two?Not adding up to me

edit to add: Why buy so many if your going to sell them? You said you buy so many so that you can smoke more.

Also taf, I don't think any B&M got thirty boxes.

yes it's a hole in the wall b&m.  it's in a local mall out of the way of everything.  they get them because they do carry all of fuentes products including montesino and others.  as i said it's a bunch of elderly people who go there, they do move product.  just not 10$+ cigars.   they've had a fuente account for a long time now and are on their opus x list so they get all the goods.  you've got your stories wrong also.  i bought two boxes of aged 46's from a member of CF and broke them up into fivers for another board.  as for my purchases, i bought 5 boxes at one time from that b&m and sold two boxes to other members.  i stock pile for many reasons.  i never gave just one.  one is to get them to members who can't get them, the other is to have some to age and the other is to have some to smoke now.  i think you are getting way to anal about this.  if you were here in FL i would gladly show you the b&m and you probably still wouldn't believe they got that many boxes.  if you are interested, when i was there two days ago they still had a box of untold story maduros sealed there.  though they wanted 375 for em.  if you want to call them you could always PM me for their info.

jay, I really and honestly don't want to get you excited or anything. Just trying to get the facts straight.

One of those facts is that you mentioned on CF the same purchases or boxes that that you mentioned here BUT, you said you bought the five from people off that board. That's all. You didn't say anything about getting them from your local B&M

fact #2 You said,"a hole in the wall that hardly anyone frequents."So, that means they don't move ALOT of product so that's why I was curious. Just a question bro don't get upset.

Again, just questions jay?

Jeht, I would have to bet that our favorite shop inVegas got 50. I talked to a owner in texas that got 12 and 2 boxes of the woa maduros and 18 of the Anejo sampler, they were awesome. He told me he was a level 4 5 or something Opus account. He has a 20k sq foot store and moves a bunch of product. It could be a keypunch error like my guy in Texas. He has a small store and gets 8 ESG every month and does not sell that many and gives them to me. It could be many things, but it still happens. The 3 I found the owner wanted me to take all of them, but out of respect to him and his customers, I didn't. I don't know about the other board, but I do know who my hunt went. I left my # with 14 shops that had not seen them yet and they promised to call me if they saw them.
