Anyone here an electrician?

Anyone here an electrician?

I need some advise concerning my main electrical panel & hooking up a generator to it.

I have a generator (7,500/9,375 surge watts) that I'd like to hook up to my circuit panel.

I currently have a 150 amp service main panel on the ground floor & I have a 75 amp sub panel upstairs.

I was thinking I'd like to have an interlock installed with an outside outlet for me to plug the generator cable into and not a manual transfer switch.

The reason for my thinking is that the manual transfer switch would let me energize only a set number of circuits and with the interlock, I can turn off & on any circuits I want & I need to power circuits on both floors.

The other thing to consider is that the interlock kit I've found that fits my box requires 3 slots to install.  I have 4 open, but a bunch of breakers would have to be moved in order to put the 3 required for the installation in the correct location.

So.....any thoughts?

I know someone with a similar setup at his cabin... When he asked me, I said talk to a real electrician Smile

I think thats what you should do... This kind of shit is incredibly dangerous for you, and any linemen in your area Smile

I know, that's why I'm asking.  This isn't a job I would do by myself.

I've talked to 2 different electricians & gotten 2 different answers & I'm not sure I trust either of them much.

I had it done. I posted pics here way back when. Mine was easy tho as I had a 220 exterior line already installed for my hot tub. I used that line when I got rid of the tub. So all the guy had to do was installed the new box outside (interlock) and moved the breakers in the box. I could of done it myself but I hired someone.

Jimmie...did you look at using a manual transfer switch?

Jimmie, did you think about going with a manual transfer switch?
