the trick to having any blade hold it's edge is to hone it at a sharp angle. Too much thin metal will wear too easily. Then again, we are talking soft brass here.
Still, I had one that was attached to pool chalk that I used for many years while shooting pool. It maintained a sharp enough edge after cutting probably over a hundred cigars.
