hey guys quick question, if i buy a speaker package from bestbuy that consist of just the speakers and a sub do i NEED to buy a receiver for it to work or can i connect them to my blu-ray player?

Most of the time you'll need a receiver, unless your blu-ray has one built in. If it just has HDMI, RCA, or optical outputs you'll need a receiver.

The amp/receiver is arguably the most important part of the system. You dont have to get an expensive one though.

ok thanx, my blu-ray does not have one built in..i dont need anything fancy and i dont listen to music it will be only for movies and tv..i will try to find a decent receiver for 200-250

Some features you may not need now but you could in the future. You say you have a Blu-Ray player so you probably have an hdtv i would recommend investing in something that can handle your video needs as well as your audio. HDMI switching is a huge feature!

yea that is nice i think i will get it..my brothers girlfriend works at best buy and she gets things at cost which is about 40% off the list price

The guys there are as anal about video and audio as we are about cigars... I did a lot of reading there before I bought some of my equipment... I ended up with a Yamaha receiver that does a hell of a job.
