Time to head off again
#1
Just a quick note to say I'm heading off to Azerbaijan again in the morning and it could be for the last time.

I have had a couple of serious talks with a good friend who is keen for me to join his venture as a consultant, and I need to put together some project work for his HR dept to look at so that they can base my offer on what they see.

Now this all sounds great, at least twice the money I am making at the moment being the big hitter here. However, there is the hassle of 6 month contracts at a time, paying my own tax and insurance etc as well as the rest of the work that would be involved with being self employed in an industry that can be fickle at the best of times.

I have decided to at least talk things over and see exactly what kind of offer will be made, but the big decision breaker is that I would have at least another 5 years in coveralls and a very uncertain future after that.

My head is in a bit of a spin at the moment to say the least.

So, sorry up front for being a little lapse in posting over the next wee while folks and I will speak to you all when I'm better dressed.

Dave.

Nothing like heading out again with that little tid bit to chew on Dave.

As always, we'll be thinking of you while you there.  Be safe brother.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Dave, some advice about working for yourself

do not do it unless you can commit to it. Once committed it can be great. The tasks you mention are minor. I found the most difficult thing to do is shave your boss every morning (you always have a boss).

As for your upcoming trip, take it easy and stay safe (that last part is not an option!)

Hey Dave.....

Stay safe brother...the boys here at SC will be thinking of you! And concerning the self-employed thing...this year will be my 5th year running my own company. Overall it is 8 years...but for the first 3, I was only doing it part-time. Then I could not juggle my fulltime job plus my business. So I took the leap. And it was the best move I ever made. I truly would be leading a very different life right now without it. Thank God! But I know we are in different fields and I cannot speak about your field...but Skip is right...I am a slave to my business...but I have surrounded myself with excellent staff to now relieve me more...but when it's your own...it's always on your mind! But the benefits are priceless... Smile

As always Dave, God's speed brother. We will be glad to hear from you when we can.  As for your decision, look at all possible scenarios, talk to the wife about it and then look inside yourself for your level of comfort with the facts in. Good luck my friend.  Cool
