Hygrometers
#1
I periodically salt test my hygrometers like the dilligent little anal compulsive cigar slob that I am.  Of late I've noticed that the various ones I have fall farther and farther out of calibration the older they get.  What was 0 is now -3, what was -3 is now -5 and so on down the line.  Is this the normal deterioration of what is an otherwise cheapy product?  Anyone else notice this?  I've got caliber iii's and don salvatore's if that matters.  thanks.

i've got thompson digital ones, and mine do the exact same thing. i've yet to try it, but someone told me if you wrap them in a wet towel, and raise the humidity all the way up to 99, the "re-calibrate". i think i might try that, although it doesn't sound like theres any truth to it. however, oddly enough, my radioshack hygro has not deteriorated in any way.

Just bought a Humipac One-Step Calibration kit to check mine. I have two in my humidor and last time I salt tested them they were the same now they read differnt only been a couple of months.

I started out using the salt test, but now I check about every six months with a Boveda calibration kit. (Humidipack in a heavy plastic bag) In between, I simply go by feel and smokability.

Actually, I finally started taking Skippers advice and basically let all of the stuff I've bought do it's job.Wink
