Wife is sick
#1
I do not visit this section all that much, but I wanted to share the news I got today.

My wife called me at work today and said she felt like she was coming down with something. She(we) did not sleep well at all last night, and her discomfort continued today at work. During her morning break(she's a teacher), she called the doctor, and got an appointment after work. By noon, she started running a fever, and found out by the school nurse, that one of her student's parents, just called to say that their doctor confirmed their child as having swine flu.

Our doctor is trying to be very proactive on this, as she is pregnant, but cautious, because of side effects of certains medicines...etc She got a flu culture at her appointment, but will not know if it is swine, until Monday or Tuesday.

I never got a flu shot in my life, but looks like I am getting one on Mon, and the swine shot on Wednesday.

I am VERY nervous for my wife, especially since she is pregnant.

Anyone here have any experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your wife .My wife got her shot and it was week later she got the flu. She endded up in the hosp. for 4 days real sick . they gave her antibiotics and fluids . Just getting over the symptoms 2 weeks later. She is an atrisk pt. as her blood counts have been down as a result from her cancer treatments . They sent her home with tamaflu and the doc. put me on it too it is a 5 day med. And so far I have not had any symptoms. I personally am apposed to the shots as every time i take a flu shot i get the flu. So I guess I will still not take it and take the chance. But hind sight is 20/20 for me and would hate to get it this year. Good luck and will keep you and yours in our thoughts

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers. We appreciate them.

It's really hard to make decisions on what medicines to take when your doctors are not making that call for you. Apparently the studies for the effects of Tamaflu on pregnant women are not that plentiful, an no one wants to say "take it", or "don't". We chose not to take it based on the data the doctors provided.

I'm sure everything will be fine, but I cannot help being worried. I'd really like to know how great(or not) the threat is.  I guess will find out in a few days if she is H1N1 positive.

Thanks for letting me vent fellas.
