Two Stroke Rebuild
#1
Hey Guys

For awhile, I have been posting on FB about getting my sled running again...Well, I did it.

I wanted to take pics throughout the process, but soon forgot about the camera, and really got my hands dirty. I tore the motor completely down, and split the case. I replaced all gaskets and seals in the entire motor, and replaced the cylinders with cylinders that I bored/honed to .020" over. I threw in a set of wiseco pistons and rings. I replaced the needle bearings and wrist pins as well. I also sealed the case halves with yamabond. After all of that, I went through the carb and clutch.
I have been running it here and there to slowly break it in. We have not had much snow, so it's been mainly running on the stand.

I have about 11 hours into the rebuild, including the cleanup.

Soooooo, here are the only two pics I took....lol

It's my snowmobile(sled) engine. 440 cc's.

On the stand, it is a bear. The primary clutch needs a little bit of tuning, but I'll take care of that later.

It's older than I am, but the price was right.....And I like it!

It's nice that you have the skills to rebuild that. I used to help my friends rebuild their engines, but I couldn't do it alone. However I did rebuild a single piston chain saw engine once & I am a wizard with transmissions (my first car used to blow them like nobodies business-maybe it was the driver Wink )

It's helps out a lot Skip! I was speaking with Ktee the other day, and told him that I knew early on that if I wanted to own "toys", than I'd better know how to repair them. I am not a junk collector...lol.., but I can see potential in items. I could not afford half the stuff I have, if I had to pay full price for it. I'd rather buy cheap, repair, then sell/trade to get what I really want. I have done this a bunch of times with pretty good success...Take my boat for example.

I may have some transmission questions for you in the near future!!!

2 strokes are so much fun. I had an 86 Honda 250r a few years back that I did the same thing to, and man there is nothing like ridin a two stroke. Such a thrill compared to anything else. Usability compared to a 4 stroke is questionable in a riding application. Have a ton of fun man!!
