Lean over and whisper to him: "I'll split the take with you if you promise not to say anything" then grab the cigars you were going to buy and act like you are trying to hide them.
One time the guy was 100% with me! Of course I ratted HIM out! (the owner was a friend)
usually you just get this big dumb look.
In a shop for the second time where this happened a new guy followed me in, the older new guy came in to enjoy the show. I changed it up for his sake. I look at the new guy square in the face and said: "you know, I paid him back for the hundreds of cigars I stole... You'd think he would cut me some slack and not send someone to watch over me at this point." The guy was fumbling around for something to say just kinda grunting and couldn't look me in the eye.
