Oh T, what an image. [eyeout]

Welcome to StogieChat, Christopher!

I'm about to be a resident of Raleigh, NC.
Very close to your stomping grounds.
Does your family still have tobacco operations?
I'd love to see a tour of the place if so.

Raleigh is about 3 hours away from my Grand Fathers farm. If you head up Highway 52 up into Dobson NC, Surry County theres atleast around 300 acres left up there that still grow tobacco in the summer. All the tobacco is processed by RJR exlusively anymore but if you hit Route 6 in Dobson off of Prision Camp Road that's the family's farm land.

Most of this land is leased anymore....my Grand Father is into his 90's now and none of his kids nor grand children picked it up. I assume when he passes the'll ask me to take over, to which my reply will be a big yes. I'll lease that land but I'm no farmer. I'm just a smoker! [rob]

Brently you don't need a tour. Just go walk in the fields, in early spring they start hiring for tobacco pickers. I think it's still $12 hr and you pick the entire priming of the plant. Bring gloves and clothes you'll never wear again it's nasty work.

I think RJR will still do tours in Winston Salem if you call. and If I remember there's the fox hound lounge, one of the few remaining steak houses you can smoke in right around the corner. They have a museum and the whole nine yards.[popcorn]

No not anymore they just lease the land now. There are still farmers out there but few grow tobacco anymore.

My family still owns the land and one day should I get an itchin i'll grab a john dear and grow my own line of Stogies, Maybe call them Mayberry Vintage...lol who knows.
