Los Blancos Maduo Robusto
#1
The 411:

Size: Robusto 5x52
Manufactured in Esteil Nicaragua
Wrapper: Nic
Binder: Hon
Filler: Nic

Pre-Light:

This stogie has a very dark almost black wrapper with an oily sheen and smells of sweet, wet hay as well as just a hint of spice on the foot. There is some minor veining but the construction is top notch. I decided too open this cigar with what I believe is a 6mm punch and found the pre-light draw to be about rite for my taste, offering some resistance but not to much. The pre-light draw also reviled a bit of a peppery spice on the taste buds as well as the lips. The body of this cigar is firm to the touch with no hard or soft spots. It really is a nice looking smoke.

Post Light:

I didn’t have much trouble getting this maduro burning after a good toasting with my triple flame lighter. The initial draw left me with the sensation you get from eating dark chocolate that kind of coats the mouth and just hinted at that flavor. Subsequent draws reviled a hint of ceder wood and a sweet spice that is hard for me to pin down but it seams to be present in most cigars that contain Nicaraguan tobacco. The Dark gray and black specked ash held on for about the first third and fell off nicely into the ashtray as I retuned the cigar to its resting place. Shortly after that I noticed the draw getting a little tighter than I like so out came the trusty Xi and off came its head. This allowed me to get a much greater volume of smoke and actually seamed to help with the slightly uneven burn that I had been experiencing up to that point. Around the beginning of second third I noticed the taste of clover but most of the flavor was mild ceder wood and the sweet spice that I mentioned earlier and remained that way pretty much until the end. I did encounter some minor burn issues that I had guessed that I would considering the oily nature of the wrapper leaf on this stick.

Conclusion:

All in all judging from this one sampling I would say that this is a pretty decent smoke. According to their web site this is a 4 on a scale of one to ten in strength and I would pretty much agree with there assessment maybe putting it just on the + side of 4. I also have to say I like there system of numbering one to ten too describe strength and I may have too adopt this system in future reviews and maybe expand it to describe strength of flavor as well. I found this cigar to be nicely balanced and well blended. I think that the minor burn issues that I experienced could have been corrected with a little more time in the dry box but despite that my over all satisfaction with this stogie was good and I thought it pared well the acidity of my Country Time pink lemonade. If you like Nicaraguan tobacco I think you will find the Los Blancos Maduro robusto worth the asking price of $5.58 by the box. Though I said that I may adopt their numbering system in future reviews for rating other attributes of a cigar I think I will stick to my system of nubed or did not nub to describe my over all rating. As for this one, well I nubed it.

Nice Review.

I'm finishing up my review of all of the Los Blancos offerings for Cigar Inspector.
My take is more or less what your described here, but I'm a bit less impressed.
