Dry Heat, Problems stabilizing Humidity
#1
I switched over to coal heat, from my very, very expensive oil....I love it! I bought a big stoker and put it in my basement...Only problem is that it REALLY dries out the air. I purchased a whole house humidifier, which helps a ton, but it is still fairly dry in my house.....

My humidor used to be stable at 70% all the time..Now it will bounce between 60 and 65, never reaching 70%...My sticks seem fine, but I want a stable environment for them. Besides an Oasis, or anything else electronic, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can use??? Anyone else in my situation??

What would you guys do?

Thanks!

Tim

i have the same problem.

As weird as it sounds, i take my cigars in the bathroom in the morning, open the lid, and take a nice long shower.

When Im done, the humidity is a bit high (85%) but I close the lid and within a couple hours its back down and it seems to settle around 66%. My cigars are great!

The wrappers tend to get a little wrinkley at first, but that soon goes away.

It may not be as easy for those with large humis, but for my little one, it is wonderful!

In the summer, my house is 68-70. My house is been holding steady all winter at 70....I think I had it up to 73 once or twice, but the room my humi is in is always 70.......

i've had some big fluctuations lately.

wait, that didn't sound right... [doh]

ahem! the weather has swung the humidity around here quite a bit lately. i find it helps to just have a ziploc with some charged up humidity pillows handy (some vendors ship orders with them). when it gets super dry, i'll throw some of those into my coolers and things seem to stabilize nicely. then the wind will come onshore again, humidity rises, and the pillows go back into the zip.

I have the same problem every winter, and at first was a nervous wreck about my smokes going bad, but never noticed any problems.  Now it doesn't really phase me anymore I just have to recharge my beads and Hydra a lot more often. I wouldn't stress it. Summer I'm around 65%-68% and now in the winter more like 60%-65%  and my cigars still smoke and burn well. But hey thats just me.

Well, I have a small humidor, and use the foam stuff that came with it....Bad idea?

Not totally a bad idea but I'd recommend along with a few others I'm sure on picking up some humidity beads. Not only do they put out humidity but they also absorb it if there is too much present. I was always a fan of Heartfelts.
