I bought some smokes from an out of state shop because of how much cheaper they were. I got a box of Padron 1926 #35 and a bunch of singles. I smoked a Ashton VSG out of this order last night and it tasted fine but a little more than half way threw i noticed that the foot had so much tar comming out of it that it was almost bubbling! Than tonight I had one of the 1926 and it tasted a little bland but other than that it tasted like a 1926. I noticed pictures one the forum of other 1926s and the serial numbers were right below the Padron but my numbers are on the side of the stick, but other than that my bands look perfect, even when I put them next to old Padron 1926 band I have from the past. What do you guys think?? Did I get riped off or just a copple bad sticks? Does anyone have any 1926 #35s in their humidor that have the numbers on the side or are they all right below the Padron? Any help or advise would be great. Thanks
Ok... for the VSG... how did you clip the cigar? Generally if you use a straight cut you usually won't get tar build up. But if you use a v cut or a punch then tar can build up in the head of the cigar because it can get trapped due to the incomplete cut a punch or v cut gives.
As for the padron 1926... the #35 are the shortest of all the 1926 series, so in order not to dwarf the cigar with the 2 bands, they off set the serial number band so the number shows on the side rather than just below the logo as seen on the larger sized cigars. It is perfectly normal and you have nothing to worry about.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I used my Xikar cutter, so a strait cut. I was preaty sure I had nothin to worry about but when the 1926 tasted bland tonight I got paranoid I guess. Thanks for the advise.
the pics of the Padrons look fine. I find that cigars just arriving out of the mail should sit in the humidor for at least a week to recover from the shpping (especially in the summer and winter where it could go through extreme temp changes in transit). Your cigar probably tasted flat because it wasn't rested long enough.
High nicotine cigars like VSGs can tend to have more tar than others. Also, letting the cigar sit in your mouth too much can make it too wet, causing tar to build up as well.

Wow MikeD, very informative as always.
Smoking Nic, you MikeD speaks the truth.
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.
