Confessions of an over zealous humidor owner
#1
Well just thought I would post that I was having major problems with my Antietam holding constant humidity for about a month and was having to fill my oasis fairly ofter (every4-5 days . ) So I took everything out of it and coolerdored it and reseasoned the living hell out of it .  I wiped it down inside everynight for a week and put cups of boiling water in there after that .Then after the week I let it sit for 3 days with absolutlely nothing in it to see what the humidity would do .IT held at 90+ percent .Now I have put the oasis back in there and am introducing things back in there a little at a time everyday and it is holding perfectly at about 68% and I very rairly hear the Oasis click on . This all was because I rushed seasoning it and thought the oasis would take care of it after I only seasoned a few days. This has got to be one of the most common rookie mistakes and even the enlightened one stumbled into it as I was so excited to get everything into my new toy !!

So the moral of the story is DONT RUSH THE SEASONING ,you will just have to do it again and you risk ruining so beautiful sticks. Listen to the guys on this board ....They all told me the correct way to do it and I still rushed it ....... Dont waste your time..... TAKE YOUR TIME !!

believe it or not, rushing and using a humidor before it is properly seasoned, with active humidification (motorized) will cause your cigars to get too wet and probably cause mold.

While the gauge is reading low 60's or lower, the constantly running humidification device is dumping water in the air which is being absorbed by not only the humidor, but your cigars too. Especially the cigars in close proximity to the humidifier.

Good for you for solving this rightly and not allowing it to solve itself.

sage advice, o' round holy one!

a nice all-around rule regarding anything to do with cigars: go slow, patience, breathe. Smile

I had the same type of issue, and was fortunate enough to have a friend guide me through it correctly, saving what few sticks I had from my blundering.  Your words are true and should be heeded by any newcomers to our fond obsession.
