Gurkha Master Select Torpedo
#1
This was a great smoke! I know most of you hate Gurkha and I was on the fence about even buying them after hearing so much negativity about the brand. I tend to agree with the consensus on what a bad smoke is but not this time.

Pre-light: The contruction was veiny but looked like it would hold together. The draw was very nice as well.

1/3: The taste was great from the first puff. I enjoyed the wrapper a lot and the smoke was very mellow. Kind of an earthy/woodsy taste? I'm not great on flavors yet, but they were good.

2/3 The draw remained the same, but now a hint of spice kicked in the back of my throat. Not too strong but definitely there. I did have some trouble with the burn. It was not even (more diagonal actually) and sort of petrified in the middle. A quick relight fixed the problem and the burn line was fine to the end.

3/3 The spice stayed the same and I was still enjoying it. Usually the last 3rd gets too harsh for me but not in this case. It stayed consistant until the end and never got too hot or too spicy.

Conclusion: These will be in my humidor forever. With the excpetion of the burn problems it was great. I did relight a few times but I was smoking/talking with a friend and may have ignored the cigar too long of intervals. I'm going to have to hop on the Tank train and say that Gurkhas are great sticks. I am really looking forward to trying the ones that Carl bombed me with now.

Sounds interesting...I'll be looking forward to Tank's review. The only Gurkha I really liked was the shaggy Legend.

I think I'm the only other guy on here that doesnt mind Gurkhas.  They certainly aren't as great as they hype it up to be, but usually aren't terrible in my opinion either.  Tongue

Haven't had a Master Select though.

I'm a fan of both the triple ligero and the centurions. (When you can pick them up on Cbid for $3-$5 per stick)

Im with you on both of those sticks, what they normally retail for is highway robbery, but when youc an get them cheaper they arent that bad of a stick.
