Updates and Decisions from the StogieChat Moderators
#1
Star
Good afternoon StogieChat community,

On behalf of the Moderators, I wanted to take a moment to share some updates about what’s been happening behind the scenes at StogieChat and to inform you of a few decisions that have been made about the forum.

Over the years, this forum has been more than just a place to talk cigars - it’s been a home where friendships were kindled, stories were shared, and bonds were forged. As many of you have noticed, the membership and active participation on the forum have steadily declined.

Currently, only a small handful of dedicated members log in and post regularly, and we are not getting new members joining our community. While a group of us have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and contributed financially each year to keep StogieChat running, the reality is that it is neither sustainable nor justified with the limited activity that we have.

As a result, it is with heavy hearts that we announce that the StogieChat cigar forum will be closing in Summer 2025.

We will provide updates with specific timelines as we move forward.

We understand that this is tough news to hear – many of us have been members for years and have forged close friendships as a result of StogieChat. We can't thank Eric enough for starting StogieChat and keeping it alive all these years. Thanks to Eric, this forum has been a cornerstone for countless memories, herfs, vHerfs, and meaningful exchanges.

On a personal note, it has been one of the greatest honors and pleasures of my life to connect with so many of you over the past nearly 20 years! And in saying this, I am sure that I speak for all of us.

As we prepare for the upcoming transition, we’re excited to share several ways for you to remain connected with the SC community. While the StogieChat forum itself may be winding down, the bonds that we’ve built here don’t have to.

Here are some options we have explored to keep our camaraderie alive:

FACEBOOK
We have a private StogieChat Cigar Forum Facebook group that is only open to established StogieChat members. It has been wonderful to see some old familiar faces posting and reconnecting there!
  • To join, search for Stogie Chat on Facebook. Please let me know your SC User ID so I can approve your request.

  • Alternatively, you can message me on FB and I can add you.

CIGAR FORUMS
If you enjoy the forum culture and want to explore active cigar content with a familiar sense of camaraderie, here are a couple of options:

1. CigarPass
  • CigarPass is one of the oldest online cigar forums (since 2000) with active discussions about cigars, drinks, food, and more.

  • They are an active and thriving community with an annual Secret Santa, an easy way to post pics, occasional bombing, and weekly vHerfs on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Check out CigarPass here -> https://www.cigarpass.com/community/

2. Society of Smoke (SOS)
  • SOS is a smaller, low-key forum that has gained traction recently.
  • It has become a close-knit option worth exploring.

Check out SOS here -> https://societyofsmoke.com

Reddit: Non-Cigar Content
To maintain a backup option for non-cigar content and private discussions, we’ve also set up an SC subreddit. It’s an evolving space that allows us to stay in touch and share updates, even if Facebook’s policies change unexpectedly.  You can look up r/StogieChat and if your username is different than it is here, you will need to let me know so I can approve you.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this.

We understand this is a lot to absorb, which is why we are letting you know well in advance. This gives everyone time to explore these options and find what works best for your posting and community styles.

It would be great to see a resurgence of SC activity across these platforms, especially for those who have not participated in a while. Let’s stay connected and keep this incredible community alive!

If you have any questions or need help transitioning, feel free to PM me here, message me on FB or IG, or text me.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being such an important part of this journey. Together, we’ve created something truly special, and that spirit will carry on.

Warm regards,
Bill (MaytagMan)
