Question: Cat 6 cable with RJ45
#1
Question on terminating a Cat 6 cable with RJ45 plug.

Using T568B, starting with the white/orange on the left edge, then orange, etc.... does it matter if the other end is in the same order, or reversed? (patch cable vs crossover?)  Or does it not matter?

It's been a very long time since I had to make cables.

The issue is on one of the cable runs for an outside security camera.  While changing out the old cameras, I noticed corrosion on the old RJ45 plug.  I need to put a new plug on it.  The cable then comes out to an inside wall connection & then connects to a patch cable going to the NVR.

Should use the same order. Crossovers arent used much anymore, switches can tell.

Thanks.  I had thought there was some protocol that made it so it could tell, but I couldn't remember 100%.

I tried 2 times putting on a new RJ45, up on a ladder, with the sun in my eyes.  Each time #3 failed.  I'm not certain now if it was the termination that failed, or if the cable is no good & I need to run a whole new line.

Got the plug on/terminated.  Used a pass through plug.

Solution seemed to be just giving a little more time to straighten out the wires, after separating them.

yeah, after i arrange them in color scheme, i'll bend them back in forth a few times while holding them flat, then cut them clean and jam it in.

I actually used a pair of needle-nose pliers.  Kept them closed & just pulled the wires over the outside jaw.
