wineador?
#1
Hey folks - quick question.

I have a wine cooler (one of those black mini-fridge things)... that we aren't going to use any more.

I know some folks turn these into humidors (wineadors?)

If I were to NOT plug it in how could I turn it into a suitable Humidor?
(even if plugging it in were a good idea I'm not sure I would trust it not to create a pool of water where it sat)

It would have loads of space, and obivously have a good seal.
Some beads or something in there could do a decent job.

I guess my concern would be - could the seal be TOO good?
I'm worried the RH would get TOO high (which is the opposit of my current problem)
.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

I have two converted wine fridges... Love them. Personally I do not plug mine in I do not need the cooling but if needed I could. When designing the modifications I took draining into account.

The seal is good but not air tight remember there is a drain hole in there somewhere.

I still like to open mine up once a month th for 30 minutes or so to let fresh air circulate.

I think there are a few threads around here somewhere about the conversion process.

Take a look in the Accessory Section.

Send me a PM if you have any questions.

Yep, same here. I lined mine with Spanish Cedar, and use beads for humidification. I've never had any issues.

Yup I find beads to work great in my wine fridges... But I hate them in anything else.

hmmm my collection has dwindled much too low to make this project practical... I don't have the stogies to put in it.
But the wine cooler... it's just... sitting there... Wink

Lord love a duck!

Well... looks like I'm building a long term storage wineador.

Which means I'll need shelves, more beads, and a BOAT load of cigars worthy of long term storage.

I'm gonna have to buy my wife something awesome...

Build it and the cigars will come. You'll find a reason to fill it.
