Picked up an August Smart lock for the back door at the beach house.

Pics to follow after I install it.

Chris & I installed the August Smart lock on the front door at the beach.
I forgot to take pics but will next time I'm down.

It's pretty neat with some cool features. You can set it so when you leave the house it will automatically lock the door and you can also set a range that will unlock the door for you as you get close to home.
I can add a guests permanently or for a certain time period etc. There's a feature that will notify me when that person opens or closes the door. It operates all thru my phone.

Now you still have to turn the handle to open the door but the best part is I don't have to make keys for guests or wonder who has a key or doesn't have one or who didn't return the key.

Before you get to the house you just need to make sure your phone battery isn't dead.

Here's the website, I got it on sale for 100 bucks.

It looks like you keep the same hardware outside, so can you still keep a key on your ring in case you don't have battery power?

While I don't have that (but will look into that and the doorbell cam), my home alarm has similar features with codes. I can go online and give someone a code or take it away whenever I want. My mom and dad each have a code, and the nanny used to have one. Whenever the alarm is turned on or off I get a text with the activity and who did it. (e.g. "Alarm disarmed by Jimmie at 12:46pm 05/31/2016")

Neat idea on that lock!

Yes, it still operates with a key, you only change the inside, same deadbolt etc. You can buy their whole set but I only needed the mechanism.

For the summer I turned off the lock feature as we usually have the front door open for the breeze when someone is home.

Chris had left the house and I was wondering why the deadbolt was showing with the door open. LOL, I realized the feature was turned on and it worked perfectly even with the door open.

I first put it on the back door but to lock that door you have to lean on the door slightly so the dead bolt was catching completely.

But it's a new toy and pretty cool. I rather have a maid with cleverage to open and and close the door for me.   Big Grin

That looks pretty slick. I think I'm going to have to pick one of those up.

Here's a pic of the lock on the door:

When I got to the house this morning  the door was unlocking itself based on my settings.
 Pretty neat..

Installed two Nest thermostats (upstairs & downstairs). I can control the settings from anywhere. If I'm driving to the beach I can turn on the air / heat on the way down or adjust the settings etc.. pretty cool..

Yeah, I've seen too many movies, to think that the stuff doesn't happen. Baby monitors, smart tv's, Wi-Fi, all kinds of stuff is just way to easy to hack.
