We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

A local forum that I'm on has gotten several reports from an area near the water in Suffolk county (Babylon Village south of Montauk Highway) that people are forming a militia to patrol the streets against the looters. There is no police presence in these areas.

Latesst news from our beach town:

Work continues on clearing all streets. More debris and street cleaning contractors were brought in from the DOT. The contractors have also begun rebuilding the dune system and have made significant progress.
The analysis of the damage to the electric system has been completed with the help of the City of Vineland. An order has been placed with our electric supplier and materials s/b arriving in a day or two. We are scheduling the utilization of outside contractors to assist in the rebuilding of the distribution system. We plan to put a boot on the electric meters of every property served by Lavallette Electric before we attempt to reenergize the system. The boot will not allow the house to be reenergized until a proper inspection has been performed.
The Army Corps of Engineers have been contacted; we are trying to secure generation to power our switchgear in the hopes of reenergizing the distribution system.
Catch basins are being cleaned in anticipation of Wednesday’s northeastern.
The OCUA has been working diligently on their substations to get them up and operational. They hope to up and running within a day or two.
The Mayors and Chiefs are working on a plan to allow homeowner assess to all properties. There are still so many hazards that need to be addressed before assess is permitted. Please be patient.
Green Stickers: Green stickers do not indicate structural integrity, they are the NJSP indication house clear or if not people accounted for.
