The only problem with the costa del sol and Portugal is that they do compulsory purchases when the government need land for relocating their people.

Most of the time it just so happens to be areas with large expat communities that get "purchased".

The quotes are there because they buy the land ..... the fact that you have a 200,000 euro house on the 40,000 euro piece of land is no never mind to them.

A lot of UK expats have found out the hard way before moving back to the UK and never getting back on to the property ladder.

Hard lesson.

I'm starting to look at Florida properties. They don't tax my pension, lower cost of living, no snow and I can be a bigger gun nut than I already am.

6 years left to go...
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

BELIEVE ME

It is NOT too early to make those decisions

Do it now and watch it get easier.

I am working on the financial stuff. I already have a good chunk of money in my pension. If things keep going the way they have been I should be able to retire early and have plenty of money to live on.

I meant I have plenty of time to decide where I will be retiring. By the time I am ready to go the house should be paid off. Then we will need to decide if we keep it or sell it. We have talked about doing the snowbird thing. Winter in Arizona, summer in Seattle. I have been thinking Las Vegas would be nice too. Flights will always be cheap to get there.

I used to not be bothered much by the cold weather. But then I started smoking cigars. I'd love to live somewhere warm year around. Cigars taste better in warm weather, especially when it's humid.
