I am currently conducting an experiment with aging Padilla cigars. The Dominus, the Miami (which is awesome), and the 1932 Signature. Provided I'm still around I will review them after years of aging. Here are my impressions after two months in the humidor. I paired it with a big glass of Chimay Red Trappist Belgian ale.
Padilla Dominus
Size: Toro (6 X 50)
Wrapper, binder, filler: Nicaraguan Corojo from 2006
Strength: Full
Pre-light aroma is sharp, suggesting lots of pepper. Cigar lights with a blast of black pepper, the first third is a delight with wonderful cocoa, spice, and hickory flavors. I was licking my lips it was so good. This stick burned very slow, it wasn't what one could describe as razor sharp but it didn't need any touch-up either. Retrohale is great if you have sinuses of iron. Too strong for me to use this..retrohaling this smoke - as delicious as it was - nearly put me on my azz.
Second third: I am really getting a buzz now, and not from the ale. This cigar is as powerful as it's gorgeous lion band would lead you to believe. The ash is dark and light grey, it was holding for an inch and a half, and was flaky. My clumsiness setting it down caused it to break off. I am now getting more woody flavor with a little leather.
Final third: Strong milk chocolate and black pepper. The cigar is very strong and full-flavored now. Really long finish.
All in all, in my humble opinion, this is one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. It is an event, set aside a couple hours for it. It is a true Nicaraguan puro..the 2006 Corojo being used throughout, so I have no idea why it is so complex. A tribute to the blender's art indeed. For those that enjoy a full flavored, full bodied experience; I would recommend trying these with no reservations.
Oh look, my 1.000th post...
