Padilla Dominus
#1
I am currently conducting an experiment with aging Padilla cigars. The Dominus, the Miami (which is awesome), and the 1932 Signature. Provided I'm still around I will review them after years of aging. Here are my impressions after two months in the humidor. I paired it with a big glass of Chimay Red Trappist Belgian ale.

Padilla Dominus
Size: Toro (6 X 50)
Wrapper, binder, filler: Nicaraguan Corojo from 2006
Strength: Full

Pre-light aroma is sharp, suggesting lots of pepper. Cigar lights with a blast of black pepper, the first third is a delight with wonderful cocoa, spice, and hickory flavors. I was licking my lips it was so good. This stick burned very slow, it wasn't what one could describe as razor sharp but it didn't need any touch-up either. Retrohale is great if you have sinuses of iron. Too strong for me to use this..retrohaling this smoke - as delicious as it was - nearly put me on my azz.

Second third: I am really getting a buzz now, and not from the ale. This cigar is as powerful as it's gorgeous lion band would lead you to believe. The ash is dark and light grey, it was holding for an inch and a half, and was flaky. My clumsiness setting it down caused it to break off. I am now getting more woody flavor with a little leather.

Final third: Strong milk chocolate and black pepper. The cigar is very strong and full-flavored now. Really long finish.

All in all, in my humble opinion, this is one of the best cigars I have ever smoked. It is an event, set aside a couple hours for it. It is a true Nicaraguan puro..the 2006 Corojo being used throughout, so I have no idea why it is so complex. A tribute to the blender's art indeed. For those that enjoy a full flavored, full bodied experience; I would recommend trying these with no reservations.

Oh look, my 1.000th post...

AWESOME job man. It's great to see you back.
.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

It's great to see you too, sir. I hope you have been well. And thank you.

I used a punch on this cigar by the way. Had I cut it I probably would not have been able to get to the computer for awhile. The buzz from the Dominus makes the El Cobre seem like a Macanoodle...at least for me. This is one tough, awesome cigar. There are cigars you smoke while doing something and there are cigars you devote your undivided attention to...this one is the latter. You can smoke it because it is a special occasion, but it can also BE the occasion.

Ernesto Padilla descibed this as a "Miami on steroids". This is accurate in my opinion. I've read a couple reviews where they rated the Dominus "Medium" or "Medium-Full"...I haven't any idea what these gentlemen were smoking....

This is a awesome cigar however I found it not that strong, I thought the Miami was stronger(buzz factor).

Thanks for the review

Wow, well I guess a person's tastes are all subjective. Great excuse for me to fire up another Miami so I can do a fresh comparison!

You're one tough bird to find the Dominus not that strong, John. I need more practice....

HAHAHA I'm a light weight I found the Miami strong lol

I really think each person's chemistry determines how they react to certain blends of tobacco. It's weird but interesting.

Either way both the Dominus and Miami are tasty.
