An uninsured loss is something you never want to claim on your taxes. It happened to me when I was 20 and lost everything also. I'm soo sorry for the loss and breaks my heart about your dad. Hold him close and help when you can to put him back.
It's a shame the world changed like it did. 60 years ago the town would have done a house raising to rebuild. You might want to think about http://www.habitat.org/cd/env/restore.aspx to help out.
