I've learned to remove links on my own. They're not that difficult with the proper tools.
Often you can find videos online that show how to do this. and much of the needed tools can be fashioned from pins, paper clips and the like.

I just bought the invicta link removal tool for $6 and it took minuets

i have a invicta tool kit i bought from ebay for $5 and i remove my own links..i had to modify the tool kit a bit though..cause the bands on some of the watches are so wide it didnt fit..but it works fine now

I just use a thin skewer for cooking and a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove links. Push the pin out enough to where you can get a hold of it and pull it out.
