353 POUND THRESHER WINS 34thd ANNUAL FREEPORT HUDSON ANGLERS SHARK TOURNAMENT: First-place team takes home $44,076 in cash JUNE 17, 2006, Freeport, NY – A 353-pound Thresher shark caught by Capt../Angler Scott Mittleberg on the Reel Time has won the 34th Annual Freeport Hudson Anglers Shark Tournament. Capt.. Scott Mittleberg and his crew were awarded $17,400 for 1st. place and $26,676 in Calcutta. The Thresher was one of about 11 sharks weighed in at the Town of Hempstead Guy Lombardo Marina this evening at the Tournament’s close.

Other prize-winning fish included: Second place with $6,325 in cash and $6,669 in Calcutta went to Capt.ain Paul Sichler and the rest of the crew on the Fishfinder for a 232-pound Blue Shark. Third place with $3,165 in cash and $22,800 in Calcutta went to Capt.ain Lane Lehrhoff and the rest of the crew on the Marlee’s Pearl for a 228-pound Blue Shark. Fourth place with $1,580 in cash and $24,700 in Calcutta went to the crew on the Oil Burner for a 220-pound Blue Shark. Fifth place with $1,265 in cash went to the crew on the Findictive. A tagging award of $632 each went to Capt.. Mike Sanzone on the Laura S, Capt.. Harry Schroeder on the Just Add Water, and Capt.. Bruno Licata on the Alicia Marie. Other winners were: 6th- Wally World, 7th- Happy Time, 8th- Canyon Bound, 9th- Lenis Choice, and 10th- Capt.. Deadly which also won a Calcutta of $4,750. A total of 186 fishing teams participated in this year’s tournament, one of the oldest and largest shark-fishing tournaments on Long Island.


Pitiful results. So many "sharpies" saw nothing. Including the famous Frank Mundus (the Jaws captain) and other notable (professional) captains. We actually had more action with our 2 fish in the slick!

A few... Including, of all things, around 40 miles out there was this magnificent pirate ship! I looked for Senior but couldnt find him
