This review is going to start off the same way most of my reviews start out, I have to thank LZ for sending me this EL to smoke and review.
The Montecristo Robusto is in the same boat as the PSD3. It was originally released as an EL in 01', but Habanos S.A. decided to bring back this classic for another go-around.
The appearance of this hefty looking robusto was that of a typical Montecristo. The wrapper was flawless, no veins, blemishes, or defects to be found anywhere. It was dark brown, almost chocolaty looking with a light tooth.
The prelight draw, although unusual didn't reveal any noticeable flavors, but the draw was nice and firm.
I have to be honest with this one, it wasn't until this cigar past the 2" mark that any flavors started to come out. The only flavor that was dominant past that mark was a slight nutty flavor, other than that it was pretty much pure tobacco for the duration.
The ash that this cigar produced was about the only highlight of my EL experience. It easily held on for over 2", as to be expected from a high quality Habanos.
I was quite surprised with the smoke from this cigar. Although it was very good smelling, there wasn't much of it. The draw had slight resistance, so the lack of smoke that was produced had nothing to do with it being plugged or having any construction flaws.
Conclusion, I was quite disappointed with this one. The was some memorable moments, with the unique nutty flavor, but other than that I couldn't justify dropping $400+ on a box. There are many Habanos out there that can be had for much less that are much more enjoyable.
I would like to hear some other reviews on this cigar. I want to know if I am the minority on this one, or if others have had the same experience.
I would also like to add that this has been the ONLY Montecristo produced by Habanos S.A. that I have not liked to date.
