Cigar Recommendations
#1
So I've just started smoking cigars a few weeks ago. The cigars I've tried so far are:

Rocky Patel The Edge - My favorite cigar so far

CAO gold - I liked this one very much

Avo No. 3 - I really enjoyed this one, very smooth and creamy

Baccarat The Game - My first cigar, very sweet. Decent cigar.

Fonseca - I liked this one more when I was done with it than while I was smoking it..I don't know how to explain.

Romeo y Julieta - When I tried this, it seemed a little harsh to me but this was one of the first cigars I had.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head right now. Anyway, I've been smoking mostly mild cigars. I was wondering what other kind of cigars I should jump to. I bought a few cigars today, I bought:

Cuesta Rey, Davidoff (they don't have a label), Flor de Oliva Gold and an Avo Maduro. They told me to try it and see how I like it since I've been smoking milds for a while. Maduros look so tasty too.

Anyway, yeah, that's about it. Just wondering what I should head toward. I'm also wondering if I should buy a box of cigars instead of buying singles everytime.

Keep trying out singles from the shop until you figure out what some of your favorite qualities in a cigar are.  also read some reviews to see what other cigars are out there that seem to appeal to your tastes.  You don't want to buy a box if you dont have a humidor yet.

You should also try The Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 & 1992 cigars (92 being the stronger of the 2),  Arturo Fuente cigars (grand reserva or Hemingway series), Oliva cigars are also a good value.  Also, you can't forget Macanudo...mild but very consistant.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

For mild, try Don Diego,or Macanudo. Don Diego Aniversario is 1 that I enjoy.

Have you looked at autions, like C-bid?http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/ And no I'm not trying to push them. Sometimes they have mild samplers so that you can try a wider range of brands. Just don't get carried away with bidding, some people do & end up paying way more than what they could have normally paid. You can also get a 5ers too.

But first, you really should get a humidor. You don't want your cigars to dry out before you have the chance to enjoy them.

The Edge is defanitly not a mild cigar. If you like that I would suggest the rest of the rocky patel line as well as Padron 2000,3000,6000, and some fuente's such as the sungrown chateu, 8-5-8 maduro and natural, cuban belicoso, and the hemingway and Don Carlos lines..And dont hesitate to try any cigar...You never know wha you might find that you will like!!

Thanks guys. I'm ordering my humidor tomorrow or the day after. I'll probably have another thread because I don't know much about humidors besides the few things I've read online.

One of my first cigars was the Macanudo Hampton Court. I really, really enjoyed it. The price tag on it at one of the local shops was 10 bucks. While I was buying it the guy said next time I swing by he's gonna steer me into another direction of cigars. He said there are plenty better cigars out there that are cheaper..but I really enjoyed that one.

I did not know the Rocky Patel Edge wasn't a mild. I'm going to smoke the Avo Maduro tonight. I'll see how that is. I don't have a humidor but I have those mini-temporary humidor packs and I have about 5-6 cigars in a zip-lock bag right now. I have them in a Baccarat box, but I heard humidity doesn't stay too well in those boxes (which is why I kept them in the ziplock).

I haven't been to C-bid but I'm going to check it out right now. I was looking on Corona Cigars and I saw two things that caught my eye (actually everything caught my eye).

The Mega Cigar Sampler:
http://www.coronacigar.com/products/Corona_Mega_20_Cigar_Sampler_pid312_cid3.html

Sweet Sixteen Sampler:
http://www.coronacigar.com/products/Sweet_16_Cigar_Sampler_pid253_cid3.html

I figure it's cheaper to get samplers online than it is to buy stogies at the local shop.

If you liked The Edge, JL, definitely keep an eye out for Edge Seconds at Corona Cigar (they're out of stock at the moment). They came recommended to me when I asked the guys here about getting my first box, and I really enjoy them. You certainly can't go wrong at 2 dollars a stick, either.

cigarsarge, yeah I read the thread you made about your first box. I will definitely check that out when they restock and when I get my humidor up and running. Thanks.
