Fuente Hemingway Sungrown
#1
Well after a great dinner and a great holiday I figured that it would only be fitting to bust out a special stick from the humidor. I decided to go with a Fuente Hemingway Sungrown. I have been fortunate to have some of these beauties fall into my lap and decided that tonight was the time to really see what they are about. I gave it the once over and noticed that the wrapper was extra dark and very well constructed.  After clipping the cap I  tested the draw and  between the  pleasant flavors and the nice draw I knew I was in for a treat.  I lit this bad boy up and let the games begin. The smoke was very smooth and mellow (you can tell almost 4 years of age has done these babies justice) I noticed a slight spiciness in the background which was not very pronounced. As I neared the half way point the spiciness picked up a bit and the flavors became more intense. I really liked the woody and almost licorice hints that I was picking up. Again this cigar was so mellow and sophisticated that it I still can't put my finger on every aspect of it. The construction was typical of most Fuente products........near perfect IMO. While it may be frustrating at times to chase all of the Fuente rarities I have found that they have never been a disappointment and turn out to be a very welcomed treat. This cigar was unlike any Fuente sungrown I have had to date and was very impressed. Overall I would say this was a medium bodied smoke yet full on flavor.  I have some more tucked away for very safe keeping and I look forward to these being a rare treat for me. Cool

Shouldn't be half that old.....they were a one shot deal of 165 boxes in early 2003 for those that won the Fuente contest.

Great review T. You said these were one shots? Are they still obtainable?

They are usually available during auctions, but they are close to $1000 for a box.

Bleh. That's pricey. Are they worth $1000/box?

Well they were more like 800$ lol. The only reason I paid that much was becuase the money was going to a very good cause (the CFCF auction).  I do not think I would have paid that much had it not been a charity auction but thats what charity is about. The rarity of the cigar and the way it smoked and tasted I would say it is definitley one of the highlight pieces of my collection. Now if my wife ever found out she would kick my ass lol.  I will not be spending money like this is the near future. I have been under the mind frame that if the Army is going to force me to sit at home and collect their salary that I am at least going to have a good time with it.....it takes away from the misery a little Smile
