Same goes the other way,
11:59:59.99999 AM
12:00:00.00000 PM  (high noon there Cowboy!)
Yes.  If 12:00 AM meant noon, that would mean it would be immediately folowed by 12:01 PM.  Why on earth would 12:00 AM be immediately followed by 12:01 PM?  That would be just silly.

Yes, I'm being serious, but you're going to have to bear with me for a sec. I promise I'll get to a point eventually. One that will have something to do with the question under discussion.

Say the coastline of England is, oh, I don't know and don't feel like looking it up---let's say 2000 miles.

Well, that's if you measure in MILES.

What if you measured it in yards? Think about it. The coastline of England would become significantly LONGER, because now you'd be following various bays and inlets and irregularities and so forth that the smaller unit of measurement would allow you to, well, measure.

Now . . . suppose you measure it in INCHES.

Or atoms.

Eventually, you come to see that the coastline of England is infinite, mathematically speaking, because the smaller the unit of measure, the longer the actual measurement becomes.

A similar principle applies here. At what point is it EXACTLY midnight? Does such an exactitude exist? When do we declare that "AM" has begun? One minute? One second? One millisecond? Microsecond? Millionth of a microsecond?

It is possible there is no division of time small enough to separate PM from AM. It is always, therefore, becoming morning at midnight, and we call it AM. A twenty-four military clock would solve the problem, but then we'd be arguing about whether it was yesterday or today. Big Grin

Now... that makes sense...
