So .... would you take a job with KBR in Iraq or Afghanistan ??? I have submitted my resume for 4 positions , 2 in each location. I know it can be very dangerous , but the non-taxed pay is tempting . I have talked to a lot of contractors going back out at the airport, they come home for a visit every 3 months , and they all like what they are doing. I've also seen a few come back in urns . I don't think they would agree with that  , if they could.

My cousin's husband did a year in Iraq for Halliburton and while the $14k tax free he was making mothly was good, but he hated it.  Working very long hours and found it was longer than 3 month stretched he could come home, but only for a week at a time.  and he had to commit a year there, cause any less time the money wouldnt be tax free.

I saw a contrator with a tatoo of a dotted line around his neck and words that said "Cut here" kinda funny and kinda not funna at the same time.

I don't worry about the long hours, it's not like I'm going to play a round of golf or go to the mall after work. Was he allowed to carry a weapon, like a handgun or m-60 !!

The $ are good because you may, of course, die at any given moment. You would be lucky if it was an explosive device as opposed to the uglier, kidnap, torture, cut on the dotted line deal.  I have no idea of course how good you are with a weapon, or if you have ever been in a combat situation but I can tell you from experience that the few seconds that will exist between life and death may very well be determined by the amount of training, or actual experience, you may have had which will make your reaction a reflex. Think long and hard about this before you make the decision.  A few extra $$ now, or worst case your wife and family left to their own devices to survive without you.

He was just a truck driver, not a security specialist.

driving a truck in one of those hell holes is like wearing a sign in grammar school that says "Kick Me". You will be a target for every foot in town.
