That's the main point that it wont work. The people are already in debt and the money will just pay DOWN, not off, the things they aready have bought to survive. With the price increases of gas, food and everything that goes into the roof over there head it's not a fix. It's not going into a businesses cash register, it's already there.
.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

Terry,

Everytime there is a tax cut, the treasury surges.   As long as there are credit cards there is going to be irresponsible debt.  That is an undeniable truth.

Gas prices are due to the rising demand and limited supply.  One example of food prices are due to government subsidies on corn and ethanol production!

I didn't mean you, sorry.  I used it as an example of all the people and analyst on the tube today. That was the main reason they say it wont work. The money has already been spent.

The way I see it, more money in every persons pocket is a good thing no matter how they choose to use it!  So what if they pay off debt?  That helps them and, in turn, helps America.  The idea that this money would have to be used for immediate spending in order to solve anything is just plain wrong!  You think Citibank wouldn't like getting $500 or so from a lot of those that caused them to have a 40 billion dollar loss?  Plus, people in less debt can spend more in the long term.  They can save more for houses.  They can build wealth.  The economy is about much more than jumpstarting spending and it pisses me off to see all these so called experts talking about how this won't help because people will use it to pay off debt.:X

Don't need it, by any stretch of the imagination, but I will certainly take it!
I can use it to pay for that new humi I want, and some cigars to fill it.
