Smoked one of the Illusione Culebras this morning with my Killer Beans "Venezuelan Vendetta" coffee. Being a slender ring gauge, the flavors changed nicely throughout the smoke.
It started out mild, with bread notes and a slight hint of nutmeg. Then it got a spicier tang as it picked up some oomph, with a wonderful sidestream aroma. The final third brought out some black pepper (but not too much) for a solid medium body.
The wrapper was a beautiful reddish brown, and the ash was very dark grey and black. It was, of course, twisted this way and that; but felt good in the mouth and in the hand.
You never know what to expect from a culebra. But I'd have to say that this one delivered the goods, in addition to being a curious conversation starter. I can only imagine that the rest of the Illusione line is even better, being thicker parejos.
