I was at the Rocky factory in Honduras recently and was told that the seconds are actually thirds. The selects are actually the seconds. Actually it is based mainly on color and consistancy of construction.

Here's a shot of the quality control room. You will notice that certain bundles have the cigars turned the wrong way. These are the selects and seconds (thirds). Each bundle is marked with the rollers name and they do not pay them for the rejects.
