if your picture on your pc or somewhere on the web? If it's on the web, then senor smokes method works (or you can click the picture url link and it will embed the BB code for you).
if it's on your PC then you need to go to full reply mode (access it by not using the quick reply, instead click "New Reply" and below there will be an option to upload your picture (first browse, then upload, then insert)

I am on the short bus too. I can add photos without any problem: new reply, browse, upload, and then insert. However, whenever my picture gets inserted into the post it comes up as a thumbnail. I've tried resizing the picture, but I still have the same results. Any thoughts on how to solve my minor dilemma? much appreciated.

I asked tech the same thing months ago about the thumbnail posting when you use your pc pics with New Attachment and have no answer. It still bothers me too. When I want a larger pic I have to upload it to photobucket and post from there. WAAAAAAAAAY to much trouble.
.
We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.
If you use the "attachment" feature, it will create thumbnails and also size the image down. With the number of members we have and the posts, it is very easy to end up with thousands of photos on the server taking up valuable space. It also slows down stogiechat, makes backups larger, and eventually costs more money to keep the forum up. That is the reason why it scales the images down and also limits how many images each user can have stored on the server.
If you want a "full size" image in your post, you will need to use a free photo hosting service, or space on your own website/server. You then just insert the code to display the image like so: [img}http://www.photobucket/tbhq2343.gif[/img} (note that you would replace the "}" with "]" to make it work. Its shown that way above so you can see the code, versus it trying to show a picture...) Using that method, you can easily list several images in the same post without limitations. Note that images that are larger than the posting area, or the screen are frustrating to other users trying to read the posts. Please adjust large images to a reasonable size before posting them.

I use photobucket and have the photobucket app on my droid. I take the picture, then share to photobucket, then go to app click on picture, then menu and click the link and open browser favorite. I click on reply, then press and hold menu button and V, just like cntrl v on windows and viola' lol . May seem complicated but taking the picture takes the most time, under a minute i'd say. Quicker than whipping out my usb cable to upload to pc

Thank you Eric and Nayslayer. I will be signing up for Photobucket very soon, and will be getting a new and first droid phone soon. I will look for that app. I am very much behind the eight ball on smart phones, but I hope to catch up soon. I saved the above formatting, and will use that from here one. Your wisdom is much appreciated.
