Hello everyone.......
#31
Nice story Tyler. Thanks for sharing.

For now keep the collection and please maintain them. Ask questions in the help section if need be. No question is stupid and we will help you as much as we can. Also, do some research and read.

Now if you don't smoke or don't enjoy stogies then eventually you probably should sell the collection. I will say it might be tough to sell them as one item so be prepared to split them up. You should be able to sell whole boxes without a problem.

Be careful selling the ISOMS. Check the back of the box and you should see the year on there. That should help you with determining the value.

For now, enjoy and reflect on the memories..

[welcome] from Seattle.  Thanks for sharing your story.  It sounds like your grandfather was a great man.

That is one hell of a collection.  Every time you smoke one of those, I would look at it as spending a little quality time with him.

Thanks for the reply Tyler and a great story. I too am a gearhead at heart. I am  a WD for Comp cams and a few other large auto accessory companies where I get my NOS that stays in the back seat of my hemi ram to play. The only thing with so many cigars is that not many average Joes would step up to the plate with the money and would want a break.  Your best bet if it were mine would to catalog and date the boxes and talk to Christies and a few more large auction houses. Pre cubans could bring 10K plus per box. I also know a 3 gen German shop owner in Cologne germany that would buy some and I think  he also would be a great person just to talk to. Unless you just take up the passion and keep them for yourself.  Non the less my consulting advice fees and very minimal.[lol]

This is long but real good read. Hope I answered some echoes in your head, Terry

.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.

hello everyone ...again......you have all been so nice and have given so much helpful advice....but I feel even more confused then when I started...lol...I feel if I stare at my grandpas stogies wrong I’m going to mess them up....lol...joke...so after careful and a lot of thought ...I’ve decided that this is way over my head....and really I haven’t got the time that this collection needs....and I really don’t want to mess it up. ..I’ve been talking with some of you that are really good cadets for a good home for this collection and like I’ve told everyone…its more important to me that the collection stays intact then monetary and not split up like some dirty garage sale that all the neighbors are involved in…lol..JUST KIDDING...like I said before I really have no idea what I have in front of me…many of you that I have talked on the phone , have helped me depict what im looking at…and I really appreciate your patience …so rather than haggle over price …..I’m offering it at the cost of the humidors…..so basically you getting the collection for(free) being a great aficionado..…(AS LONG AS YOU MEET MY STRICT CRYTERRIA)..Gramps would turn over in his grave if all his hard work was pissed away on some chump trying to turn a buck….sorry...I’ve just do not want it broken up…I want the new owner to think of my gramps when he or she lights one up  from the collection…I know that is a pretty bold statement…but I truly believe a good hearted person with zero bad intentions will know him through his collection….I have a makeshift list that I have compiled and ill send it to those who don’t already have it…I believe it takes a special kind of person to be a fellow aficionado…all of you are a very tight family oriented group….now I know why gramps loved this passion….thank you all so much for giving me a glimpse into real community that cares for one another…
