Looks like my Cigar Oasis XL Plus has died - Tonto - 12-04-2014

So it looks like my Cigar Oasis XL Plus has died.  It has stopped running and just shows an error code of  "C18"  It is filled with distilled water & it is running off of direct power, not batteries.

The Cigar Oasis web site just briefly mentions the error code & that it should go off in 30 seconds (mine just stays with showing the error code).  No explanation on what the actual error is.

This unit was 1 of 2 that I have in my tower humidor.  The 2nd unit seems to be running fine.

So what should I replace them with?  I'm on a limited income right now, so I have to keep the cost as low as possible.  Sad

If I had the money right now, I'd go with a Set & Forget system from Bob Staebell.

So what are my choices?

Contact CO. Mine freaked out once upon a time, it would just keep cycling through the numbers. I shot them an email and they offered to replace it even though I plainly told them it was long out of warranty. Just had to pay to ship it to them. In my experience their customer service was great.

If you don't have luck with that I may still have that unit somewhere and could send it to ya if I can find it. I switched to a hydra many moons ago.

This may be of some help:

what does the code C16, C18 mean?
These codes are the program number of the chip inside the control top. The codes will always show when ever the unit is first hooked up, or disconnected & reconnected, or if there is a power interruption. Ordinarily, it will disappear after approximately 30 seconds. If you are using the unit on batteries are experiencing the code staying lit and not going off, that means the batteries are low. You many not have caught the LO indication to tell you to change the batteries. They are weak and the unit failed. Since the batteries were not totally dead, the unit tried to come back on, however didn't have enough strength. Replace the batteries and when you reconnect you will again see the code appear, however this time it should go out after 30 seconds or less.

Just out of curiosity, after reading that, have you put your power adapter on a multimeter to see what the voltage is? Maybe its putting out fewer volts or amps and that's the reason for the code? Or maybe your cable has deteriorated? Try flipping it around or squirting some electronic cleaner on it?

I have 2 units. 1 working & the other with the error.  I've tried switching the units with the power transformers & the good unit works on both & the bad unit still has the error on both.

I'll give them a call tomorrow, if just to find out what the error code means. I've had the units a long time...way past the warranty.

They lasted a while...at least, oh geez...let me think...I got the humidor when my oldest daughter was born & she's 10 now...so the units have to be about 9+ years old I think, so I can't complain, I've gotten my money's worth out of them.

Also, I don't need/use the ribbon cable, I can plug the main plug right into the unit. (I have 2 internal outlets inside the humidor.)

I'm running direct from the transformer...no batteries.  I've tried several times turning it off & then back on.  The error remains.
