Lock on my humidor broke - Bobgun - 12-14-2009

A pin in the locking mechanism broke on the lock. Any ideas where I can purchase a new lock? I think it is a full mortise lock. Don't want to spend too much, could probably buy a new humidor for some of the prices that are out there.

who made the humidor? have you tried calling them? is it a lifetime warranty kind of thing?

Why do you need a lock? I have no idea where all the keys are for my 11 or so humidors...

have you checked home depot?

It seems to keep a tighter seal. It has a good fit now (can't slip a dollar through it) , but it just secures it a little bit more.

what kind of humidor is it? cabinet style or desktop? i had a problem with the seal at the top of my antietam a few years ago, and a hinge type thing was recommended. you can see it in this thread

would something like that be practical? maybe an easier and less expensive fix than replacing a lock, if keeping people out isn't your concern.

Its a desk top, thanks for the idea though.

If you need extra pull to improve the seal (does it really need to be that tight?) Try adding a magnetic clasp. My cabinet humidors have up to 3 of these on the doors and they pull it pretty tight. Cost around $4 each. No key necessary. A desktop should need only 1.

A woodworking/cabinetmaking supplies company should have one for you.

How big is your humidor? It may actually be cheaper to buy a new one Smile also, what type of humidor? I'll rummage through our warehouse and see if I can't find a lock on a broken item or something and mail it to you.
