Sorry I haven't been around this weekend dudes, but a friend of mine, his son, and I went from his house to Sacramento this weekend to pick up a free Jeep for the son as a project... We left at 6:30 am on Saturday morning, with the tow bar and stuff in tow for the jeep, stopped at the flying J truck stop in Gorman, fueled up my truck and ate some breakfast.  Continued on the road, got into Sacramento at about 1:30pm, as I was doing 80 mph in my empty truck the whole way up.  Stopped at a friends house to pickup a "total gym 1000" that she was giving away, and my wife wanted it.  From there, we drove to Beale AFB, about 70 miles north of Sac, put the tow shackles and tow bar on the jeep, and pulled out, with the jeep in tow.  At this time it was 5pm Saturday evening.  Got back on the road, and drove to Ripon, Ca, where we again stopped at the Flying J, fueled up, and ate a buffet dinner.  Got in the truck, and got back on the road.  Got back to my friends house in San Pedro, at 3:15am...

Talk about a turn around trip! 21 hours round trip, 17.5 hours spent driving, 1100 miles of california covered, round trip.  The best part was I felt like a MACHINE!  I drove the entire time (It IS my truck afterall) All in all, we had a blast, and got to talk alot about life love and the pursuit of happiness.  The only bummer is, being that his wife is in the Airforce, they have orders, and are moving to Minot, ND in 4 weeks Sad

All in all though, it was a fun trip, I am sad that I didn't get to stop at Stogies in Lodi.. At least I think thats what its called.  Anyhow, thats the end of my story Wink

I love roadtrips! Smile Awesome times! Jeep sounds like a fun project! I have thought on and off about getting a jeep as a weekend project, but I think me and my friend are going to do a factory five racer instead! Sounds like good times none the less! Hope ya had a good cigar or two along the way Wink

Sadly, I only had one cigar the whole weekend.  Friday night, I went down there, and stayed at his home (On the Air force base) Well, we decided to go to the On base bar/club/poohall, and shoot some pool.. so we got good and drunk, shot some pool and had a couple of cigars.  Other than that, that was all I had.
It was a good time!  This will be a great project jeep for his son, and the best part is, the jeep was FREE!  Well, it cost my buddy fuel in my truck, and food in my stomach, but other than that, its free.

Cool.  Is this project Jeep going to be a rock crawler?

Never really been on a roadtrip myself.  Well, ok.  Never really been on an enjoyable road trip.  Tongue

Nicely done Scott!!!!  Too bad you weren't able to stop for a cigar.

Heck Scott you should have called and said you were stopping in ripon... we could have met you there for  a few minutes it is only a 25 minute drive from my place.

Yeah Djaric, its going to be a daily driver and rock crawler for my buddies kid, when he turns 16.  Him and I have been into that crap for years..  He needed to borrow my Dodge Diesel to tow the jeep, because he didn't have a truck, and I was looking to get outta town, so it worked out.

IC,
I thought of you as we hit Lodi, but we hit Ripon's Flying J at 8pm, and it was a turnaround trip.. we spent 15 minutes to eat there, and jumped back on the road.  Just a quick trip.. 1100 miles LOL..
