- MikeD - 07-03-2006 Tatuaje Cojonu 2003 [/b] USA Toro 6 ½ x 52 I have never smoked this brand previously, and with all of the good reviews and press on this brand, I thought it was time to dig out this cigar and try it for myself. The cigar appears to be well made with a very nice looking reddish-brown wrapper that really seems to stand out in the humidor.  It also has the uncommon triple seam cap for a cigar that is produced outside of Cuba.  There are a couple of spots on the cigar that seem soft, like the cigar is slightly under filled in places. I used my trusty Xikar to cut the cigar and the cigar lit rather easily.  I notice right away the full flavor of the cigar with leathery and wood flavors with a fair amount of spice.  While strong, they are not overpowering.  About an inch into the cigar I also notice, what seems to me, an element of the flavor that is very reminiscent of the legendary “Cuban twang”, that is usually only found in Cuban cigars. Very interesting. About a third of the way into the cigar, the cigar hit that soft spot I noted prior to lighting the cigar.  At this point, the cigar started to but crooked and began to canoe.  With some tweaking with the torch I was able to keep it fairly even and after another inch and a half it was even again.  Fortunately, the cigar did not burn hot, which can happen when a cigar has under filled spots, and ruin the flavor.  Despite the flaw, the flavor of the cigar remained consistent and even. I found the cigar didn’t really evolve much from start to finish, but the flavors it did have were pleasant and enjoyable.  The strength was matched well to the flavor.  Neither one was overpowering.  In terms of flavor, I found the cigar to be very similar to the Cuban H. Upmann Magnum 46.  Although the flavor was good, this particular cigar did have its flaws.  Other than the burn issue and soft spot, the draw was just okay.  For a cigar of this size I expected to give off a lot more smoke than it did.  I was very surprised at the construction flaws, especially since it is botique brand with a very low production rate.  I would try this cigar again because I enjoyed the flavor, but I hope that I get a better specimen to try next time around. Great review. - Headley - 07-06-2006 Nice review Mike.  I've had similar burn issues with the limited number of Tatuaje's I've had.  Almost to the point where I miss any complexity the cigar has.  All in all, I agree that it's a good balance between the tobacco flavor and the power. I've got a Unicos with your name on it at the Herf if you can swing it. Great review as always.
