- JoeBob - 07-06-2006 On my drive home from work, I finally set this bad boy ablaze. I had high expectations. The pre-light draw had floral hints. The burn started perfectly even, and the ash was strong and bright white. I got that typical VSG flavor... Then, after the first inch, things got crazy. The cigar swelled slightly, and the wrapper split. The burn got uneven, the ash messy. I stopped and got a coke and some gas. Didn't need a re-light, I just puffed away and she lit right back up...but never really acted like a cigar that cost as much as this one did. I smoked it down to the last inch. The Wiz was missing that little something that I like from VSG's. It has the right amount of strength, but the flavors seemed muted. I'm not going to buy any more of this vitola. To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of sun grown wrappers as a whole, but every so often they hit the spot. This wasn't one of those times. Oh well, there's always tomorrow! - Tfire136 - 07-06-2006 Good review Joe! I have heard pretty much the same things you had mentioned which is why I have stayed away from them. - discdog - 07-07-2006 Damn JB, you just had to post this AFTER I stopped & picked up six of these? Well I guess I'll go ahead & try them anyway.lol - JoeBob - 07-07-2006 6!?!?! That cost you what? $75? - discdog - 07-07-2006 Actually more than that. I also had some 26's & a couple of others that jumped in my basket while I was walking around and not looking. ![]() Oh well, I was just going to set them on fire anyway. ![]() - Bungalowbill - 07-08-2006 makes sense that it would taste a bit "muted" compared to the thinner guaged vsg's. smaller guage = sharper flavor, usually. bummer about the burn, though. that's just not cool, especially for a pricey stick like that. not to sound too finicky, but the vsg's of late have been a dissapointment to me, as opposed to a few years ago. |
