- wingo - 07-10-2006 Opus X xXx (Power Ranger) MSRP $8.75 purchased for $9.85 4.625 x 49 Wrapper DR Binder DR Filler DR This is actually the first Opus X I have ever smoked. I found a vendor that didn't gouge me and have 11 sticks of different assortments to choose from. Lancero, Corona Gorda, and xXx. I chose to smoke this one first because the size of the cigar is intriguing and I love the pyramid cap on cigars. The presentation of the cigar is fantastic with a red ribbon around the foot and a beautiful band. The wrapper is nice looking with a few veins. It is medium brown and has a nice red hue and marbalized look to it. The roll is slightly tight not giving much when I squeeze, but I found no soft spots and it is nicely filled. I let the cigar sit out for a good half hour before smoking because it was only in my humi for about two weeks and I heard these cigars are a little wet without age. I clipped the pyramid cap about 3/8 inch and took a few prelight draws which tasted good. I toasted the foot then lit it up and BOOM I was met with lots of thick, flavorful, spicy white smoke that lingered on my palate instantly. After a few puffs I new this would have a long finish. At one point the tip of my tongue was numb from the smoke. After the first inch of the cigar it mellowed out a little and had woodsy/leathery flavor. The cigar was med-full in strength and med-full flavor. It tasted good down to the nub with no bitter flavors. The ash of the cigar held on for a good 2 inches, but it did burn unevenly at times and I touched it up with a z-insert zippo lighter twice. For the most part it was solidly constructed. Overall my first experience with the Opus X was a good one. The cigar was very flavorful, but just a bit overpriced in my opinion. With the size of the cigar these should be priced around $6-7. Hopefully these improve with age because I have 5 more in the humi. - sammy - 07-11-2006 Nice review Wingo, I am looking forward to trying those. I must see what all the hype is about - wingo - 07-11-2006 sammy Wrote:Nice review Wingo, I am looking forward to trying those. I must see what all the hype is aboutWell, one has your name on it. You know where they are at
- discdog - 07-11-2006 Really nice review Wingo. - -PO- - 07-11-2006 Nice review Wingo, I have one sitting in the humi just resting. It's been there for about 6 months, I think I will give it another few months. You got my mouth watering for it though.
- bartok - 07-11-2006 Nice review, Wingo. I like the xXx, but my favorite Opus is still the #5. - wingo - 07-11-2006 bartok Wrote:Nice review, Wingo. I like the xXx, but my favorite Opus is still the #5.Thanks, I hear they all have different taste profiles. I hear the bigger sticks are more mellow. I have heard a lot of good things about the #5's, but haven't been able to get a hold of any of those. Right now if you spend $100 at Serious Cigars they will sell you 2 #5's at MSRP. Too bad I don't want to spend $100. - Irishcelt - 07-12-2006 very good review Wingo. - bartok - 07-12-2006 stupid double post - bartok - 07-12-2006 wingo Wrote:I'd say same flavor profile, but different in emphasis. The #5s have almost liquid smoke, with a heavier emphasis on the jalapeno, cinnamon and plum flavors. (Sorry, but these are really there in the Opus. I'm not BSing). The DCs are my next favorite. Same flavor profile, but maybe a little creamier and more mellow.bartok Wrote:Nice review, Wingo.
