From the tin: “Deception Pass — on north Puget Sound tidal waters flow dangerous & quick under a high trestle bridge. Master Blender Joe Lankford retreats here to reflect. Joe’s NW style Virginia Perique gives the pipe smoker a sense of how we savor our marvelous region. Enjoy English-style Virginias, Acadian Perique, Black Virginia, Black Cavendish and a touch of rare Turkish Orientals. Crafting the most sought after small batch blends in America since 2007.”

  1. In my language "glup" means "stupid". So cavendish beeing gloopy in your pipe is true. I didn't try this blend, but you have well described many blends i had and hated for pretty much the same reasons. Cherrs, Bradley, keep up the good work!

  2. Tell it like it is. I love it. Thanks!

  3. Sorry to hear it was not enjoyable. I pretty much solved the bitting problem by using a 9mm charcoal filter. My German pipes are mostly 9mm filters and they control the bite. As for the "goobiness , well we all need to clean the pipe anyway. Great review. You actually smoked all that tobacco! Kudos!

  4. Bradley truly enjoy your Pipe tobacco reviews – only wish you did cigar reviews – probably would save me some money πŸ™‚ Thank You!

  5. I bought this blend early 2015, & really enjoyed it to the point of burning myself out on it, so I jarred the rest & recently revisited it, & it was excellent! I am not a Vaper fan, or perique, & I hate Cavendish, so It calls into question if the rumors that SPC's blends have been going downhill as of late perhaps. At the time I purchased this blend I was on a SPC binge after trying Mississippi River, & Plum Pudding. More of a Burley based fan as of late, & I wanted to thank you for your review of Solani Aged Burley Flake, which after taking your advice & trying, eventually led to my current tobacco preference. If you ever get the chance, compare Wessex Burley Slice to Solani Aged Burley Flake. Most say they are the same, but I feel Wessex is the superior tobacco. Great review, & thank you again!

  6. I know you've said it in another video, but I can't remember. What is the pipe you are smoking in this?

  7. A deception of hodgepodge- why call it something it isn't. Won't be wasting my money on cavendish

  8. so cool seeing that Dunhill that I gave you . enjoy my friend

  9. Thank you for suffering through it, for us, Bradley…

  10. Your joke at the end got my thumb up haha

  11. Tried it last year and did not care for it either. I should have paid more attention to the name of the blend, which was not misleading, combining "Deception" and "Pass"! As for Cavendish (either made from Virginia or Burley) the quality varies greatly, as well as the sauce that is used in the casing.

  12. I laughed hard over you comment about "passing" on the tobacco. More of that, humor in the review that is. As always, i love your review πŸ™‚

  13. Agreed, Hot, Moist, Sticky, Messy, and Stinky, not my cup of coffee either. πŸ“¬πŸŒ²β˜•βœ”πŸ˜Ž

  14. 121 Like's πŸ‘πŸ˜Š…))

  15. Thanks for the review. You have saved me πŸ™‚ As well, I hope the homefront situation is getting better!

  16. Dang! Smoked half the tin knowing you didn't like it. Now that's professionalism! Well done.

  17. I felt the same way about potlatch. I found myself really not enjoying the black Cavendish in that blend.

  18. Just have to say the way you delivered the joke about "passing" on the Deception Pass just made me laugh out loud!Β  Keep em coming! Take care, Mark

  19. Sounds like my kind of blend if they'd take the perique out LOL … bring on the gloop!! I knew when you said "black cavendish" & your face twitched that this was going to be a resounding rejection of the blend … Seriously, have you called P&C & spoken to Russ & seen if he'd make you a dupe of Elizabethan Mixture? Those Hearth&Home blends are knock-offs & are pretty good … maybe he can make one called "Lizzy Beotch Blend" & nail it for ya, brother!

  20. Hi, Bradley! Well, that's too bad about the Deception Pass. I like the Perique, and I like the light tang from the orientals. But I do agree that the black cavendish turns it into something other than a Va/Per. Black cavendish tends to smoke hot for me as well, so I tame it by smoking it in a 9mm filtered pipe. Not one of my personal favorites, but it is fairly popular, so I do have it on the shop. I normally have other blends from SPC as well, just sold out of them at the moment. Here's hoping you enjoy the other two blends you got from me more! πŸ™‚

  21. great review Bradley! =)

  22. Thanks for taking one for the team and getting through half the tin! I will now take a pass on this one. BTW, love Ye Olde Signe, thanks for that one, Haven't tried the Elizabethan and Dark Flake yet but they are in the cellar now. Well, I'm off to the shenanigans now!

  23. Honesty much lol. But seriously after Mississippi River was redone I did not care for it or plumb pudding compared to the originals. Those tobaccos used to be like super dense crumble cakes and now the texture and taste are not as good.

  24. Bradely thankyou for the review. Would you consider trying Barling Tradition 1812??

  25. I can't speak to Deception pass specifically, but I have encountered several other blends produced by pipes and cigars (Hearth and Home series) which seemed to be drastically inconsistent in terms of the ratio of tobaccos from one tin to the next. Maybe someone was asleep at the switch and forget to reload the Virginia hopper around the time your tin was filled?

  26. that steamed tongue bite was what turned me off of aromatics way back when. there was only one i did like, and i haven't seen it in years was a darkish vanilla with vanilla crystals in it. i'd recognize it if i saw it again, but absolutely cool smoking, smooth, no bite, burned clean ashes, no gunk, no candylike flavor. now i do english that have a heavy lat base, or balkan sasieni. i'm in love with gaslight. it's just what i love most in a smoke.
