Pipe Tobacco Review: Dunhill “Dark Flake”

Posted by in Pipe Tobacco Review

It’s another new OLD Dunhill blend! “Dark Flake,” a richer, spicier older brother to Dunhill’s “Flake.”

From SmokingPipes.com: “First produced back in 1970, Dunhill’s Dark Flake is a heralded vintage blend of choice Virginias and a little Perique for spice. Bolder in strength and flavor than Dunhill Flake, though still as easy to prepare.”

  1. Enjoy your reviews. they are always enlightening and true to form. Very expertly done.

  2. Nice review as always, the black and white sticker on the tin says "Smoking kills", a European treat. Happy New Year and celestial smokes.

  3. Thx. Smoking both new Dunhill Virginia tobaccos this week. Great review as usual.

  4. Hi Bradley, have you tried using clay pipes? I heard they give the most unaffected, pure smoke. What are your thoughts on those? Im asking cause we seem to have similar taste in pipe choices.

  5. I'm a big fan of Full Virginia Flake so I will be trying this one.

  6. Hi Bradley, great review, as always. But I was just wondering, as it is starting to get properly wintery over here, what blend would you suggest as a nice wintery smoke when it's cold outside? I remember you referring to Dunhill Elizabethan as a more summer-like blend, so I thought maybe you could make video on tobacco blends according to season some time? Just a suggestion, I'm really interested in what you would have to say about that… Keep up the great vids Bradley!

  7. Great review. Love the comparisons and info relative to all the Dunhill blends now that you've done so many. I hope you can do this with other blend families. Happy New Year.

  8. Fribourg and Treyer changed Blackjack. 🙁 It is kinda like MacBaren Va #1 now, and is all the same color, whereas before it was black and tan and smelled sweet. Now its just plain Va. Still good, but not desert island good, like it was. I'm glad I ordered 30+ tins of the old blend!

  9. Another excellent review Bradley. Congrats. I liked it so much. Thanks a lot.

  10. As always Bradley, thank you!

  11. Another great review, Bradley! I actually ordered myself a tin when you first introduced the blend on the channel a couple weeks ago. I haven't cracked it yet, but since our tastes in tobaccos generally agree (other than 1792 Flake), I am really looking forward to it!

  12. HHMMMM …… a new Dunhill pipe ??
    Cheers,
    J.

  13. I've asked this before, but it's been a while and something may have changed. Is pipe smoking affecting physical performance, oh and have you ever worked out after smoking?

  14. I love a good, matured, dark virgina. That's why my wife is black and 8 years my senior.

  15. I'm glad this got a good review from you; I impulsed bought two tins each of Ye Olde Sign and Dark Flake during the holiday doldrums. Ye Olde Sign seams to be garnering better reviews but I expect Dark Flake will have some similarities with some of my favourite tins – Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake for one!

  16. I love your reviews, this one seemed a bit rushed thou, i recon you was about to go to your family with that sweater on! 😉 (came to the conclusion when i saw your last sunday smoke, you had the same sweater on).
