The La Gloria Cubana Colección Reserva was released at the 2017 IPCPR trade show in Las Vegas, NV.  The cigar is a collaboration with Ernesto Perez Carrillo who took over the La Gloria Cubana line in Miami in 1980 where it had been in operation since 1972.  La Gloria Cubana was one of the hottest cigar lines during the cigar boom of the 1990s and was one of the original cigars considered full bodied during a time where there were very few.  The Coleccion Reserva was blended to replicate the original La Gloria Cubana from the 1980s.  The cigar uses a special Sumatra wrapper grown in Los Rios in the Quevedo region of Ecuador.  The cigar is released in 3 sizes:  robusto, torpedo and presidente.

Wrapper:  Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder:  Nicaragua
Filler:  Nicaragua
MSRP:  $7.59
Vitola:  robusto

Sample received from General Cigar at the IPCPR trade show
The cigar had notes of cedar, leather, molasses, citrus, black pepper and dried dark fruits. As the cigar neared the midpoint, the tangy citrus notes and the sweet molasses took the forefront.  The black pepper faded with the cedar and leather moving into the background.  Near the end, the cigar remained pretty much the same with the black pepper notes slightly increasing again and a bitter coffee note emerging.  Overall, I really enjoyed the cigar.  The body started off medium bodied and ramped up to a more full bodied smoke near the end.  The cigar is well worth the $7.59 price tag and smoked very well.  The flavors were very enjoyable and is one I would like to have a full box of.

  1. Enjoyed your review  Thx.  I bought a box based on your review and you nailed it.  Great New Cigar, Bourbon and coffee are great choices.  Glad when a coloration goes well.

  2. Enjoyed the review – thank you. I smoked La Gloria until General Cigar bought them out. The cigars seemed to go down hill rapidly so I never bought another box. I did experience a lot of draw issues and that turned into wasted money. How would you rate this one compared with an Oliva V or Padron 2000 ? Looking forward to more of your video's. Take care and God bless.
