Cigar smoking cigars Pipe smoking pipe tobacco pipe smoking my pipe collecting pipesmoking : Keeping the ash as long as possible makes the cigar smoke better and I swear makes it taste much better. So keep a long ash on your cigar tipping it only when you think it is just about ready to fall off on it’s own.

  1. It is not good to leave it longer than an inch. It influences the taste and airflow.

  2. Everytime i try to leave ash for the longest possible time it always ends up falling on me, usually when im taking a puff. Is this what happens to everybody? i dont see how this can be avoided without smoking over an ash tray waiting for the thing to fall off

"I was told by a fellow smoker a few years ago that by not ashing the cigar, it keeps it cooler, hence the better flavor that you are talking about. I guess the cooler temperature reduces the amount of nasty hot tar buildup in the cigar. It makes sense because heat is an exothermic process, meaning that heat travels from hot to cold surfaces and not cold to hot. So by leaving the ash on, you have a greater surface area allowing the heat to be spread out even into the ash, cooling the cigar."

Great information, thanks for sharing! I've always believed that my cigars seem to last longer when I don't ash them until it looks like it's going to ash itself. Do you, or any others here have an opinion on that?

  4. I think I heard that too somewhere a long time ago, I don't know if it's true, but I certainly hope so! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Is it true that Churchill used to put a needle inside the cigar? It's supposed to make the ash stay on the cigar for the whole time. He, supposedly, used this trick for meetings where he needed ppl to agree with him. They were all so distracted by the long ash, they were not really paying attention and simply agree on anything he said. Have you ever tried that? Does it work?

  6. Funny you should make this comment today, last night on fell on my exposed leg and really burned me good. Actually left blisters on my leg. Worst ash burn I've ever had. Ouch!!

  7. It's all fun and games until that 3" ash falls in your lap. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. sir you like the cool uncle i never had ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Winston Churchill was a great man!

  10. @AgPipe15 That's facinating, I never knew the science behind why it seems to be better with the ash on. Thank you!
