I was enjoying a cigar at my local Club Humidor in San Antonio, TX the other day and I ran into one of my friends who was just getting back in to smoking cigars. He had a lot of questions about how to cut a cigar, how to light it and so on. He said that he had smoked cigars before, but not in the presence of professionals. I could tell he was a little intimidated, so I thought it would be a great idea to make a quick video about cigar smoking 101. Hopefully this video will serve as a great introductory class and give people some insight to cigar smoking before they go out in public. If anyone has any questions afterwards please comment in the section below or send me a quick email. Some of the basics that I cover in this video include: cigar terminology like foot, cap, draw, etc. I will also discuss the various types of cutters such as guillotine, v-cutter and a punch. I will also show you how to properly toast the foot of the cigar before lighting it. In the video I mentioned that there are no absolutes when it comes to smoking cigars, and that everyone should do what feels and good and natural to them. The cigar that I used in this tutorial was the La Imperiosa by Crowned Heads which was just released at this year’s IPCPR 2015.

  1. So you're telling me you're afraid that other people's germs get into your cigars just a reminder if you have forgotten there has been approximately 350 hands that have touched your cigar before you put this in your mouth just so you know.

  2. I notice some people don't even toast their cigars they go right into putting the cigar in their mouth after cutting light it and just rotate the cigar while puffing and they're set. I don't like doing it that way because I can't see what I'm doing I believe Arnold Schwarzenegger lights his cigars that way without toasting.

  3. I love the La Imperiosa! The natural sweet aroma from the foot as you are smoking is truely intoxicating. The draw is a bit tight though. Any cigars similar to this one?

  4. i don't like tight draws, but a little resistance is way better in my opinion than a loose draw. then i don't overheat my stogie as quickly.

  5. liked and subbed. informative and the love for cigars is obvious.
