 CIGAR LIGHTERS

How you light your cigar can make a world of difference in how your cigar will taste when smoked.  Some prefer to light their cigar with cedar matches; others use lighters, or in a pinch… regular paper matches.  No matter how you choose to fire up your cigar, it’s not a race to get your cigar lit and smoking!

no-zippoFirst of all, Zippo lighters are darn cool, but NOT for lighting cigars.  The fuel used in Zippo type lighters will taint the flavor and quality of your cigar because you will draw in fumes from the fuel while lighting the cigar. Unless you like your cigar tasting like Kerosene, don’t use a lighter like a Zippo.

Second, matches are fine as long as you let the sulfur burn off the match before you attempt to light your cigar.  With regular matches, that does not leave you much time to even begin to light your cigar properly, which is nice and slow.

That leaves butane lighters as the best choice for most!  You should choose a lighter carefully.  Many butane lighters are made with the “cigarette smoker” in mind, and not the cigar smoker.  Quite often you find fancy lighters that look cool, but some have lids that don’t open wide enough at the top to accommodate a thick cigar.  Some have buttons that are uncomfortable to hold in for a minute at a time while you slowly light up a cigar.

Remember, you are lighting up a moist cigar which is 100% real tobacco and not a dry cigarette which has a paper wrapper and a ton of chemicals to make them burn.  A cigar will take longer to light, so choose a lighter that is comfortable and better suited for lighting cigars!

One of the most reliable and nicely priced torch lighters is made by Blazer, who has quite a large line of butane lighters.

Cigar LighterThe PT4000 Pencil Torch:
Cigar Lighter
Cigar Lighter
Its 6” Long and 3/4” thick (48 RG)
(Fits nice in a cigar case!!)

Continuous burn time is about 30 minutes. It easily lights 50+ cigars between refilling!

Easy to light, no buttons to hold in..just flip the gas on, ignite by pushing the bottom button once, then slowly light your cigar.  When done, simply
slide the gas switch off and enjoy your cigar!

This lighter is available for $39.95 from TBS-Cigars.com
