Hey Pete

Any update on JVR? My son and I are gonna try to see him play during his college winter break in late December early January.

He was actually named "NHL Rookie of the Month" today! http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=508303

Prior to the start of the season, I questioned how he'd adjust to the physical play and grueling NHL schedule.  The NHL season is LONG, often proving tough for rookies - especially come February/March.  He missed a couple games with "concussion-like symptoms" early in the season, but he's looked great since his return.  He took a pretty good hit from Colby Armstrong (Atlanta Thrashers) on Saturday, but I don't think he missed a shift the entire game.

Despite the team being on a bit of a skid, James vanRiemsdyk has played extremely well.  I'll be at the game in Philly tomorrow night (vs. Vancouver).  I'm really looking forward to it, as it'll be my first opportunity to see him play live.

After simmering down from the absolute WORST hockey game I've ever been in attendance for, I can say that JVR didn't play any worse than the rest of his team.  I know that may not sound like a compliment, but considering the skid the Flyers have been on for the past 7 games, I will say it's not really his fault.  He wasn't sharing a line with Danny Briere last night, which is unfortunate as he seems to have good chemistry when playing with him.  His skating is definitely NHL-level.  As he gets older and packs on a bit of size, he's going to be a monster.  He's TALL - even among NHL players.  NO ONE on the Flyers team with the exception of their goaltender looked "good" last night, but JVR didn't look bad (if that makes sense).
