I have never had that particular cigar, but most Cuban cigars that I have had have a darker color ash than those from DR, Nic, Honduras, etc. I don't think I have ever used a Zippo to light a cigar either. I don't see how that would affect the color of the ash though. Maybe the first half inch, but not past that.

In my opinion the color of the ash has mostly to do with soil. Here are a few threads for you to look at.

Thanks for the links. I'll look through that later today. Interesting to know that cubans burn darker - I had no idea. It's just that this was reeeeeeeeeeeally dark.
Well, from your thoughts on the cigar, I would recommend leting the rest of these sit for a while if you have more. Try another in six months see if you notice a change for the better. Forget about the zippo for lighting future cigars as well, unless you get a zplus insert for it. Lighter fluid will taint the taste of a cigar.

I had this exact same cigar when I was in Europe a couple weeks ago and I experienced something similar with the dark ash. It wasn't black like you mentioned but a very dark gray. Interesting stuff about the soil though.
